Lumel Studios Staff Jason

Jason

Jason Murphy is a sculptor from Roanoke, Texas who primarily works in glass. His background in general contracting and furniture building sparked a love for making at a young age that lead to studying glass at the Alberta Collage of Art and Design.

In Jason’s previous work he has worked consistently with form and profile in making kinetic pieces. Jason’s work is heavily inspired by traditional glass techniques; a historical approach to the glass process has been a constant influence in his work over the years. Using these techniques he creates sculptures and blown glass forms that encourage engagement from the viewer, causing the viewer to break the preconception that glass is precious and should not be touched.

Lumel Studios Staff Dave

Dave

Born and raised in Calgary, Dave draws inspiration from movement, process, and the unknown. Dave is a multidisciplinary artist and his medium of choice is Glass. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts with a Major in Glass from Alberta College of Art and Design in 2014. He is truly passionate about glass blowing and the time he gets to spend working with the medium. The material of glass has created an amazing community that has brought him overwhelming happiness everywhere he travels.

Dave finds it hard to contain himself when this world is full of so many amazing people and experiences. Thus, he also works with ceramics, photography, paint, sound, and any medium that informs the concepts behind his work.

Lumel Studios Staff Mark

Mark

As an avid outdoorsman and hunter, Mark finds inspiration in all aspects of nature and wilderness. Artistically he relies on direct imagery and textures to convey the characteristics of the wild that he’s most enthralled with.

That’s summarizes his art influence, now for a bit of a back story. He is a born and raised Calgarian, and he did his BFA in Glass at the Alberta College of Art and Design. What drew Mark to Glass as a medium, was the industrial appearance and the direct application of the material.

Shanta

Shanta was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia during the Hindu Festival of Lights. She loves travelling, food, craft beer, and sarcasm. Shanta believes you should surround yourself with the inspired, the passionate, the motivated, the grateful and the open minded; and that kindness is badass.

At the age of 5, Shanta got sick in the middle of the night with the stomach flu. When her parents came in to support and clean, she pointed out the vomit’s beautiful patterning and how it matched the floral shapes on her bedspread. Finding beauty and positivity in anything has always come easily for her.
